Jamie Prophet

Jamie previously held the position of Section Principal Trumpet of the BBC Philharmonic for 14 years, joining as Associate Principal whilst still an undergraduate at the Royal Northern College of Music. Jamie has performed as a soloist with the BBC Philharmonic countless times, including playing Aratunian’s Trumpet Concerto on BBC Radio 3 under Vassily Sinaisky, Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto for BBC 10 Pieces under John Storgards, and Mahler’s 5th Symphony at the BBC Proms under Juanjo Mena.
Jamie has become one of the most successful and respected trumpet players of his generation and has performed as guest principal trumpet with leading UK ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He has performed as Principal Trumpet under many of the world’s finest conductors such as Daniel Gatti, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Paavo Jarvi, Sir Charles Mackerras, Gianandrea Noseda, and Sir Colin Davis.
As a soloist, Jamie has performed with the New York International Staff Band of the Salvation Army, Synfonia Cymru, Black Dyke Band and the Royal College of Music Brass Band. He has been a member of the teaching faculty at the Royal Northern College of Music and The University of Manchester, as well as adjudicating high-profile competitions, including BBC Young Musician and the final of BBC Young Brass Soloist. Away from classical and orchestral work, he has performed commercially with artists such as The 1975, The Pet Shop Boys, Chris de Burgh, The XX, and Boy George.
Jamie now holds the role of Musical Director of the Boarshurst Silver Band, bringing his wealth of experience and passion for brass music. Under his leadership, Boarshurst continues to grow and thrive by defending its place in the championship section with a varied calendar of concerts and contests. Jamie’s hard work and dedication ensures an exciting and bright future for the band.
