The Very Best of Brass

Boarshurst Silver Band was honoured to share the stage with the world-renowned Black Dyke Band in a spectacular concert at the Band Club on the eve of the North West Regional Championships to showcase an evening of stunning solo performances and massed band items.

Boarshurst opened the concert with Diversions, the set test piece for the following day’s contest. The performance gave the band a valuable opportunity to present their preparation of the work in front of an audience, providing a final run-through ahead of the competition.

One of the most celebrated and well-known brass bands in the world, Black Dyke Band then took to the stage under the expert direction of Professor Nicholas Childs. Their varied programme featured a powerful opening overture, dazzling solo performances from Richard Marshall and Adam Bokaris, and an exciting selection of film and big band arrangements, all delivered with precision and musicality.

After a short interval, Boarshurst was invited to return to the stage to perform four massed-band items alongside Black Dyke. Under the batons of both bands’ conductors, this section of the evening was a highlight, bringing together musicians from both ensembles in a thrilling performance of Liberty Bell, Out of Africa, Fire in the Blood, and I’ll Walk With God to close.

Boarshurst Silver Band and Black Dyke Band would like to extend their sincere thanks to Phil Beckwith for his invaluable help in organising the event, as well as to the audience members who came along to support the bands.
